Welcome to the Plovdiv 2021 Conference
Dear friends and colleagues,
We hope that you are all in good health and good spirits during this unprecedented global health crisis. ICCM has been monitoring closely the developments of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and its impact on social and scientific events worldwide. Considering the health and safety of our colleagues, members, and delegates as our highest priority in these challenging times, and following the recommendations by the National Authorities in Bulgaria, the ICCM Board in close consultation with our host institution and partner -the Municipality of Plovdiv-, have agreed to postpone our 14th ICCM Triennial International Conference by two years, from October 2020 to 24-29 October 2022. We take this opportunity to express our thanks to the Getty Foundation and the J.M. Kaplan Fund, as well as local sponsors and collaborators for supporting our decision, and facilitating the postponement of our conference. New registration deadlines, a revised conference program, and other essential information will be soon announced in the dedicated section of our website.
We are looking forward to meeting you again in 2022, until then stay safe!
Conserving Mosaics in a Changing Environment: Challenges and Opportunities
Cultural heritage is increasingly threatened by rapidly-changing physical, socio-economic, political and cultural currents around the world. Climate change and related natural disasters, reduced financial resources contributing to neglect and underfunding, rapid urbanization and geopolitical conflicts are affecting cultural heritage at an alarming rate. Heritage professionals seek new approaches and effective strategies to mitigate the pressure and the negative impact of change in regional, national and international settings to conserve and ensure the protection of important objects, collections and sites.
In its 14th Triennial Conference, ICCM will explore the conservation of mosaics in a changing world, focusing on both the challenges with which heritage professionals are confronted, as well as the new opportunities that might arise from these changes.
Under this theme, the Plovdiv conference aims to bring together conservators, restorers, archaeologists, art historians and other professionals who work in the public or private sector in the field of mosaic conservation. The conference especially welcomes students and recent graduates.
