The location
Athens is the capital and the largest city of Greece. It is one of the oldest cities in the world with a recorded history of over 3400 years, while its earliest human presence beginning between the 11th and 7th millennia BC. The city was named after Athena, the ancient Greek goddess of wisdom.
Classical Athens was one of the most powerful city-states in ancient Greece. It was a centre for democracy, the arts, education and philosophy, and it is regarded as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy.

The host organisation
The Directorate of Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments (DCAMM) is a central service of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, responsible for the protection, preventive conservation, conservation treatment, and final presentation of all historic and artistic works of Greece, from antiquity until nowadays. The objectives of the directorate are to co-ordinate and supervise conservation projects in archaeological sites, monuments and museums, to provide a range of services and consultancy to the local services of the Ministry of Culture on their activities concerning the conservation, care, protection and exhibition of important monuments and collections. It also provides guidance and immediate assistance in cases of emergency, or disaster remedy.
The mosaics’ conservation sector at DCAMM is one of the most dynamic with a background of numerous large-scale conservation projects, highly trained and experienced personnel and a continuous presence and participation at the ICCM conferences for over 30 years. Among our major priorities is to endorse contemporary theories and principles, to set and follow national and international policies, to strengthen collaborations, to promote and share knowledge, and finally to get people to know and embrace mosaics conservation.
The conference venue
The Conference will be held at the Technopolis City of Athens, located in the old gasworks of Athens. This rare industrial monument has been repurposed to offer visitors a glimpse into the city’s rich history while providing an immersive cultural experience. With over a million visitors each year, the space is bustling with activity, attracting people of all ages and backgrounds, making it a popular destination in the heart of the city. A wide an array of cultural, social, recreational, and educational activities, are organized in the premises of the Technopolis which enhance the quality of life for Athenians and visitors alike.
